Masala paratha is a flavorful, spiced Indian flatbread that’s easy to prepare and makes for a delicious meal or snack. 

Here’s a simple recipe:

Ingredients:
  • Whole wheat flour – 2 cups
  • Oil or ghee – 2 tbsp (for the dough) + for cooking
  • Water – as needed (to knead the dough)
  • Salt – to taste
For the masala filling:
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilies (finely chopped) – 1      (Optional)
  • Ginger (grated) – 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped) – 2 tbsp
  • Amchur (dry mango powder) – 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Salt – to taste
Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a bowl, mix whole wheat flour, salt, and 2 tbsp oil/ghee.
  • Gradually add water and knead into a soft, pliable dough. Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
2. Prepare the Masala Filling:
  • In a small bowl, mix all the spices, chopped green chilies(if using), grated ginger, and coriander leaves. Adjust salt as needed.
3. Assemble the Paratha:
  • Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
  • Roll out one ball into a small circle.
  • Place the spoonful of masala filling in the center of the rolled dough. Bring the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside.

  • Roll it gently into a paratha, taking care not to let the filling spill out.
4. Cook the Paratha:
  • Heat a tawa (griddle) over medium heat.
  • Place the rolled paratha on the tawa and cook until light brown spots appear.

  • Flip and apply ghee or oil on both sides. Cook until golden and crisp.

5. Serve:
  • Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or chutney. Enjoy!
