Masala Paratha
Masala paratha is a flavorful, spiced Indian flatbread that’s easy to prepare and makes for a delicious meal or snack.
Here’s a simple recipe:
Ingredients:- Whole wheat flour – 2 cups
- Oil or ghee – 2 tbsp (for the dough) + for cooking
- Water – as needed (to knead the dough)
- Salt – to taste
- Red chili powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Red chili powder – 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Green chilies (finely chopped) – 1 (Optional)
- Ginger (grated) – 1/2 tsp
- Fresh coriander leaves (chopped) – 2 tbsp
- Amchur (dry mango powder) – 1/2 tsp (optional)
- Salt – to taste
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a bowl, mix whole wheat flour, salt, and 2 tbsp oil/ghee.
- Gradually add water and knead into a soft, pliable dough. Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix all the spices, chopped green chilies(if using), grated ginger, and coriander leaves. Adjust salt as needed.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
- Roll out one ball into a small circle.
- Place the spoonful of masala filling in the center of the rolled dough. Bring the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside.
- Roll it gently into a paratha, taking care not to let the filling spill out.
- Heat a tawa (griddle) over medium heat.
- Place the rolled paratha on the tawa and cook until light brown spots appear.
- Flip and apply ghee or oil on both sides. Cook until golden and crisp.
