Pappula Podi is a flavorful Andhra style powder made with roasted chana dal (Bengal gram) and spices. It’s commonly used as a side dish for idlis, dosas, or rice.

Here’s a quick recipe to make it at home:

Ingredients: 
  • Roasted chana dal (Bengal gram): 1 cup 
  • Grated coconut:1/2 cup
  • Red chili powder (or Dry red chilies): 1tsp (adjust to taste) 
  • Garlic cloves: 3–4 
  • Cumin powder : 1tsp 
  • Coriander powder : 1tsp
  • Salt: to taste 
  • Oil 
  • A pinch of hing (asafoetida) (optional) 
Instructions:

1. Blend:
  • In a blender add grated coconut, roasted chana dal (Bengal gram), coriander powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, methi seeds, garlic, salt, and hing to a blender. Grind into a slightly coarse powder.

2. Store:
  • Transfer to an airtight container. It can be stored for 2–3 weeks.
